Music Review: Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan

EXPECTATIONS

As is the current trend with most Bollywood movies, the soundtrack of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan It has also been released alongside the arrival of the film in theaters. Although an early release of the jukebox may help to gain popularity in the days before the movie’s release, one wonders if this trend will reverse in the future. Also, once again, there are three songs recreated on this album that has over half a dozen numbers.

MUSIC

Yo-Yo Honey Singh (composer), Kinder Deol (lyricist), and singer J-Star Gabru from the International Villager album is recreated by, who else, but Tanishk Bagchi as “Pyaar Tenu Karda Gabru”. A fun track that’s already quite popular, especially in the north, this is a celebratory outing with the latest Vayu lyrics. Singer Romy does it quite well by portraying this hardcore Punjabi number that will become a box office hit again.

Tanishk – Vayu comes together to create various songs in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and one of his first collaborations is Mere Liye Tum Kaafi Ho. Ayushmann Khurana stands behind the microphone for this written number of Vayu and his voice actually seems very different here. A decent track that’s easy on the ears, comes up as a situation number at best, since it doesn’t really have that bump to emerge as a blockbuster.

The second song recreated on the album is Arey Pyaar Kar Le which is a take-off from Bappi Lahiri and Anjaan’s ‘Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re’ by Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh Saheb. A nice recreation of Tanishk Bagchi and Vayu, this one has Bappi Lahiri’s voice on hold, which really works tremendously for the song. While Ayushmann Khurranna is also stepping in, the real fun is listening to Bappi Lahiri due to his unique voice. A nice version of nostalgia from the 80s.

It is time for the Kakkar family to join ‘Oh, la la’. As Tony Kakkar writes and composes this (along with Tanishk Bagchi), his sisters Sonu Kakkar and Neha Kakkar take center stage to unravel their hair. A fun number at all times, its promotion surprisingly started quite late in the film’s campaign and might well have been beneficial if it had been earlier. Not that the song is a huge box office hit, but it still has the kind of energy that would have propelled the film even further.

Mika intervenes shortly after for Tanishk – Vayu created ‘Aisi Taisi’. Although the fun element is intact this time as well, as has been the case with most songs heard before, at the end of the day it just fits the needs of a situational outing. The same is the case with ‘Raakh’ which is actually a melancholic departure and comes out of nowhere. Although Arijit has sung for this Tanishk-Vayu creation, the hit is not really there and you don’t long to go back and give this a new audience.

There is some fun in the proceedings, though Anuradha Paudwal and Mohammad Aziz ‘Kya Karthe The Saajna’ by Anand-Milind’s “Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka” is sampled for Kya Karte Thay by Tanishk Bagchi and Vayu. Although Zara Khan tries to bring something peculiar to the proceedings, the fun element really does show up when the original appears.

USUALLY

The music of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan It turns out to be decent enough with a couple of songs that make an impression, although both are recreations. Somehow, the new songs that have been created for the movie don’t cover the distance and if there had been a hit or two hits there, it would only have helped the soundtrack more.

OUR CHOICE (S)
