Fakhar Zaman used the bat gifted by Muhammad Hafeez

Pakistan starter Fakhar Zaman revealed on Thursday that he had used a bat gifted by his main teammate Muhammad Hafeez to fight his way to two hundred in a row in the just-concluded one-day series against South Africa.

Pakistan won the series 2-1, only their second ODI series victory on South African soil since 2013 with Zaman crushing 193 and 102 in the last two ODIs.

“The bat that I used in the series was given to me by Muhammad Hafeez,” Zaman said at a virtual news conference Thursday.

Hafeez, a former captain and senior player on the side, gave away the bat after Fakhar became uncomfortable with the ones he had.

Named series player Zaman, however, said he is still not sure if he will play in the next T20 series in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The left-handed starter wasn’t originally named on the T20 team for the twin laps, but after his magnificent 193s, the selectors named him on the T20 side as well.

Zaman, a hard hitter, said he was looking forward to opening with his starting partner, Sharjeel Khan, who has a reputation as a great hitter in T20 cricket.

“It would be great if he could open with Sharjeel during the next T20I matches against South Africa and Zimbabwe.”

He said Sharjeel, also a southpaw, was one of his favorite players because of his aggressive playing style.

“It would feel really good if I got a chance to hit with him. It makes cricket look so easy. So, let’s see what happens in the future, ”he added.

Zaman said he will not lower the order from the captain, Babar Azam was the regular starter in T20 cricket and also starts with Sharjeel in the Pakistan Super League.

“I can play in any position they ask me to hit. Today in T20 cricket you have to develop a mentality to be someone who can float in the batting order, “he added.
