16 killed in Iran truck-minibus crash

16 killed in Iran truck-minibus crash: At least 16 people were killed on Tuesday in southern Iran after a truck struck a minibus full of workers.

Eight people were hurt in the collision in the poor Khuzestan region and were sent to nearby hospitals. When the truck crashed, it was on the route that connected the cities of Shushtar and Dezful.

Officials from Khuzestan declared a day of public mourning in the city of Shushtar.

With over 17,000 fatalities per year, Iran has one of the world’s worst records for road safety. Widespread disrespect for traffic restrictions, hazardous automobiles, and insufficient emergency services are responsible for the high death toll.
