Directed by the legendary Makoto Shinkai, Suzume no Tojimari now dominates the global box office. The film premiered in Japan in November 2022 and has successfully grossed US $102 million in Japan, which is incredible.

Suzume sets the record of being the 15th highest-grossing film globally and the ninth highest-grossing film in Japan.

Before Suzume, no Tojimari, MAPPA, and Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 had the ninth spot in the highest-grossing movie and earned around US $100.8 million. As a result, JJK became the highest-grossing movie of 2021.

After achieving the new milestone, Shinkai is proud to have three of Japan’s highest-grossing films. Besides Suzume, the other two movies are Weathering with You and Kimi no Na wa (Your Name).

Weathering with You has earned US 104.3 million, while Your Name grossed around US $184.5 million.

Suzume no Tojimari

Suzume is a 17 years old girl who begins her journey in a small town in Kyushu, where she meets a young man who is looking for a door. Suzume finds the frozen door, which stands among the rubble, withstanding a disaster.

As a result, Suzume becomes impressed with the man’s mettle and strength and instantly grabs the door’s handle, after which a series of events happen.

Now the doors begin to open throughout Japan, leading to the ultimate destruction of the nearby town. The story of the movie revolves around Suzume, who struggles to close all these doors to prevent the disasters from engulfing Japan.

Suzume is an action-packed movie featuring challenges, obstacles, and farewells amidst incredible landscapes. Suzume is one of the most resilient leading characters and a torchbearer of hope and positivity as she struggles to encounter challenges and overcome her worries, fears, and worldly limitations.

Masayoshi Tanaka designed the characters, Takumi Tanji is the art director, and Kenichi Tsuchiya is the animation director. Suzume had an advanced screening in IMAX in Japan on 7th November 2022 and was released nationwide on 11th November.
