“The Covid-19 crisis prompted the government’s implementation of the MCO in March of this year.

The population, particularly those at risk, was advised to stay at home to prioritize their safety and health.

“Life under the new normal was seen to have impacted several aspects of life, especially the family institution,” he added.

In light of the above, Ismail Sabri said that the National Population and Family Development Board conducted a study between March 5 and 14 this year.

The study was about to determine the impact of this pandemic on married couples. The report noted that the study involved 1,148 married and had children aged seven to 24 years old.

The results indicated that 80percent of parents experienced mental and economic stress in the third round in the outbreak earlier in the year.

He also noted that 28% of them said their financial situation was worse throughout this time compared to previous MCOs.

“This is evident as 84.1% faced emotional stress such as being anxious, nervous, and worried during the third wave of the pandemic,” the doctor said.

The study, he said, revealed that 63% of the respondents suffered periods of depression.

Besides, Ismail stated that it reflected the effects of depression in 20.4 percent of surveyed parents. And they are finding it challenging to manage their temper.

“This was then followed by difficulty sleeping (16.8 percent) or having frequent headaches and stomach aches (15.8 %),” he added.
