Former Planning Commission Member and Economist Abhijit Sen Dies At 72

One of the nation’s leading authorities on rural economics and a former member of the Planning Commission, economist Abhijit Sen passed away on Monday night. He was 72.

Throughout a four-decade career, Abhijit Sen served in several significant government roles, including head of the Commission of Agricultural Cost and Prices. He also taught economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

Between 2004 and 2014, Manmohan Singh served as prime minister and was a Planning Commission member.
