Anime Ad by Capcom for Resident Evil 4

The ad was recently released on Sunday, featuring the grand opening clips of Resident Evil 4. It’s not just an ordinary ad; the gamers and fans consider it an episode of “Resident Evil Masterpiece Theatre.”

The primary reason behind that is the innocent and cute animation style and the ad’s title both refer to the World Masterpiece Theatre, essentially a children’s anime. Nippon Animation, a Japanese anime studio, originally produced the anime. The original anime aired between 1969 to 1997 when the millennials were either babies or not even born.

Let’s talk briefly about the World Masterpiece Theatre, which essentially adapted and incorporated multiple children’s literature. Not only that, but the series featured the work of currently renowned animators, such as:

  • The co-founders of Studio Ghibli – Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata
  • Mobile Suit Gundam creator – Yoshiyuki Tomino

Another fascinating feature of the World Masterpiece Theatre is that two more anime came out from the original series:

  • Heidi, Girl of the Alps (1974) – directed by Takahata
  • Dog of Flanders (1975) –  By Miyazaki and Takahata

If you haven’t watched the above anime, you can have their reference in the initial opening minutes of the Resident Evil 4 ad.

What’s in the Ad?

The opening scenes begin with a cute dog running in the valley with a girl and boy running towards the dog. However, the dog scares them off by turning into a mysterious creature and running after the human beings. Later, you can see other characters walking toward the dog.

Next, you can see the first episode’s title, in which the main character is looking for Ashely. The character holds a gun and decides to ask a person about Ashely’s whereabouts. However, as the person turns, he is holding a shovel, and his eyes are red. Not only that, all the people who turn aren’t normal but zombies with red eyes, and one of them kills the boy. Yes, you heard it right. The boy is now dead.

You get what will happen when you’re playing Resident Evil 4.
