Eknath Shinde’s Government Faces New Supreme Court Challenge From Team Thackeray

Concerning Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh’s decision to ask Eknath Shinde to form the state’s administration, the Shiv Sena faction headed by Uddhav Thackeray has filed a petition with the Supreme Court.

It has also contested Monday’s assembly proceedings, during which the new chief minister of Maharashtra quickly passed the floor test.

The Thackeray camp claims that the 16 dissident MLAs who were the subject of ongoing disqualification procedures could not participate in assembly business.

On June 30, after the BJP completed the ouster of Uddhav Thackeray, Eknath Shinde, and Devendra Fadnavis took the oath of office as the chief minister and deputy of Maharashtra.

In the 288-member parliament four days later, his faction secured 164 votes, well above the required 144 for a simple majority. Only 99 MLAs cast a no vote.
