Ukraine PM Morrison says they will help Ukraine buy lethal weapons

Ukraine PM Morrison says they will help Ukraine buy lethal weapons.

A$70 million ($50 million) will be used to buy lethal defensive weapons for Ukraine, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Tuesday. This includes missiles and ammunition, he said.

A week ago, Australia said it would only pay for military-technical aid. Now, it has changed its mind.

New weapons funding for Ukraine will be mostly lethal, Morrison said on Tuesday.

“We’re talking missiles, we’re talking ammunition, we’re talking about supporting them in their defense of their own country in Ukraine, and we’re going to do that with NATO.”

He said the weapons would arrive quickly, but he didn’t say how.

Morrison also told Australians not to go to Ukraine to fight against the Russian military, saying that the legal status of foreign civilian combatants was not clear.
