Ukraine’s biggest cargo plane An-225 Mriya has been destroyed by Russian forces. 

Ukraine’s biggest cargo plane, the An-225 Mriya, has been destroyed by Russian forces, Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state defense company, said on Telegram. 

On Sunday, an attack by Russian troops on the airport outside of Kyiv killed the plane. Ukroboronprom said the plane was destroyed in the attack. 

Putting the plane back together will cost more than $ 3 billion and take a long time, the company said.

The An-225 Mriya, which was made in the 1980s, is the longest and the heaviest plane ever made. 

The Xinhua news agency said it could hold up to 640 tonnes of cargo. AN-225 ‘Mriya’, which means ‘Dream’ in Ukrainian, was made by Ukrainian aeronautics company Antonov. 

It was the world’s largest cargo plane before it was reportedly destroyed by Russian shelling at Hostomel Airport outside Kyiv.

Russia has been firing cruise missiles at many cities in Ukraine since Thursday, when it started a full-scale invasion of the country. 

Sunday, the second-largest city in Ukraine, where street fighting broke out. Ukrainian forces took back control of the city from Russian troops, who had broken through their defenses at the start of the fight.
